Phase doppler velocimetry

Phase Doppler velocimetry
In laser Doppler velocimetry particles are radiated by two laser beams and the phase shift of the scattered light signals is measured. Two laser beams are split into four beams of equal intensity. The beams are focused and made to intersect. The scattered light from particles passing through the beams at their intersection is mixed at the photo detector surface and gives a 'difference' signal. Since the rays enter the particle at different angles, the optical paths to a common arbitrary point on the detector differ; the light waves are shifted relative to each other.
Two detectors allow determination of particle size.
The technique is used for determination of droplet size and velocity distribution in sprays and nozzles from 0.5 to 90 µm. The measurements are performed on a TSI Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer and the report consists of size and velocity distribution results.

Phase Doppler velocimetry and the use of doppler effect to measure droplet size and velocity of sprays.
For analysis of droplet size and droplet velocity in two directions of sprays. With phase doppler analysis specific sections of a spay plume can be characterized giving valuable information for nozzle design.
The doppler effect is used for medical, nozzle, inhaler and velocity analysis. The droplet velocity and droplet size of a nasal spray, electrospray, metered doze inhaler, pesticide or a dry powder inhaler is done by Phase Doppler velocimetry.

Phase doppler velocimetry

For analysis of particle size distribution with electrical measurements such as electrical senzing zone also called coulter counter or electrical mobility analysis.
The multisezer from beckman coulter measures emulsion and particle concentration providing the aerodynamic diameter or particle volume. Typically used for waste water. The differential mobility analyser measures aerosol by electrical mobility.
Qualitative and quantitative analysis of particle size distribution with electrical senzing zone also called coulter counter. With this particle counter each individual particle is counted giving information on concentration and distribution.
Any particle sizing system or emulsion can be characterized with this particle measuring system resulting in the particle diameter and particle count.
Visualization of particle size with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis gives a better understanding of the particle system and insight in the particle shape and distribution.

The doppler effect is used for medical spray characterization, nozzle desing and inhaler information. The velocity of the droplets, thus droplet velocity and droplet size is given in the report. It is an important tool for nozzle design of nasal spray or electrospray. Even the metered doze inhaler and a pesticide or a dry powder inhaler can be characterized. The phase doppler velocimetry is an important tool in characterization of materials.
